Redefining Possibility: Veronica Siaba’s Story, by Leah J. Zelaya
At Harmony, every story celebrates the indomitable strength and unwavering resolve of those who rise above adversity, forging a future rooted in inclusivity and justice. These stories, rich in empowerment and struggle, shed light on what it means to embody resilience in its purest form.
Today, I am honored to introduce Veronica Siaba, a 26-year-old woman living with cerebral palsy, a neurological condition that affects movement and muscle coordination. Despite the challenges her condition presents, Veronica has never allowed it to limit her potential. Instead, she has turned her experiences into a powerful force for positive change, demonstrating that true strength lies in embracing who you are, no matter the obstacles.

Veronica’s journey is deeply intertwined with Dancing Dreams, a nonprofit organization where she was the first dancer. This program offers adaptive dance opportunities for children and young adults with disabilities, allowing them to express themselves through movement in a supportive, inclusive environment. Veronica now mentors young dancers, sharing the lessons she’s learned, and continues her work for greater accessibility in the arts. Through her work at Dancing Dreams, she not only fosters talent but empowers others to embrace their own abilities.
In addition to her role at Dancing Dreams, Veronica educates senior phyiscal therapy students at New York University, teaching them the importance of seeing patients as individuals, not merely through the lens of their conditions. This work reflects her broader mission of creating more inclusive spaces, where everyone’s unique needs are understood and accommodated.

During her time at St. John’s University, Veronica majored in Communications, a degree that has been instrumental in shaping her work. Her studies provided her with the tools to effectively convey the importance of accessibility in everyday life. “With mobility challenges, travel can be an everyday struggle,” she shares. Her experience on campus revealed that even with renovations, essential accessibility features—like functional curb cuts and accessible doors—were often overlooked. These challenges not only highlighted the need for physical changes but reinforced Veronica’s belief in the importance of fostering an inclusive mindset. “Disability is human. It’s diverse,” she explains, reminding us that accessibility must be tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual.
Veronica also embraced the challenge of joining a sorority in college, learning valuable lessons in time management and collaboration. “It’s not just about managing your schedule; it’s about managing others’ too,” she notes. Through this, she gained important insights into balancing personal and shared responsibilities. Veronica faced many obstacles—such as malfunctioning automatic doors that forced her to rely on public safety for access—but she used these challenges as fuel for change. “I had to call public safety just to get inside,” she recalls, but instead of feeling discouraged, she used the experience to push for better solutions.
Graduating from St. John’s University was a moment of immense pride. “It was the best feeling in the world,” she reflects. Her graduation represented not just personal achievement, but also a victory for all those who, like her, have fought and continue to fight against societal barriers with strength and resilience.

Veronica is a powerful reminder that success is not defined by the absence of obstacles, but by the courage to face them head-on, break through barriers, and create spaces where everyone is seen, heard, and empowered to thrive. Her journey teaches us that when we embrace our differences, work together, and support one another, we can build a world where everyone’s potential is realized.
At Harmony, we celebrate unity and the strength found in our differences. Through each shared story, we continue to move closer to a future where every individual has the opportunity to flourish.
